Interdisciplinary Science for Environmental and Social Security

Principal Investigators: Lucas Silva (Environmental Studies, Geography)

Project Summary:  This project will develop a data-enabled plan for building resilient communities on the basis of carbon and water security. Specifically, this project will support interdisciplinary activities aimed at integrating new collaborations among fields to foster new discoveries while simultaneously applying existing data to inform forest and watershed governance.  The overarching aim of this project is to test a quantitative strategy for studying forest carbon and water governance in aridifying fire-prone landscapes, thus developing a new framework for assessing risks and benefits of different forest and watershed governance models to simultaneously improve carbon sequestration and water quality as metrics of environmental and social security.
